Appropriation

Appropriation is the practice of taking already made artwork and taking it into a different concept.

Beans for Bars

Beans for Bars

This is Beans for bars, a piece where the before image just a child carrying cocoa beans for the chocolate bars made by nestle, an example of these bars have been attached to the image to give this picture meaning that every time someone now eats a nestle product they will know there are children like this working in their country to retrieve the beans needs for those bars. The use of the nestle logo is apparent as it follows the code of the nestle brand where nearly all of their products have the branding on them in some way or another. I prefer this image to all the other images as the use of fading the different chocolates and the obvious addition of the Nestle logo allows for it to stick out of the background of the image.

Nestle says no

Nestle says no

This comes from the controversy with nestle as the CEO of Nestle has made a statement saying that “access to clean water should not be a public right”. This is implying that there is no way that someone  is able to get clean water unless they pay for it from a shop that sells Nestle water , this is a public fountain that has been appropriated to explain this view. This image could be improved by making this image a more apparent and more topical by making the water pipe clear it was a water supply. The image also adds a notion of a floating sign rather than a sign hanging from this image so this could be improved.

Always Time For A Break

Always Time For A Break

This image is taking into the consideration that there children working for Nestle and the use of child labour is acceptable according to their business, the image has been adjusted by implying the Kit Kat slogan (made by nestle) is not implied in the culture that they treat there workers and they have no time for a break, even they they are only children. The final image uses the same technique as the top image and is giving the image a clear meaning and making the words stand out from the image and making it clear what the appropriation of this image is.
